Jon Westwood's talent in visual arts was evident even at a very young age, from the numerous crayon drawings on the walls of the townhouse where he grew up. It became obvious that this talent included music when he picked up the trombone in a middle-school music program. In his final year in the Mayfield Regional Arts program for music, he began playing bass, in addition to playing trombone with the Blues Alley senior stage band. After spending some time composing small electronic mixes, he sought out a similar musical interest in his high-school friend Brent. In addition to being a member of Animatist, Jon is a member of the Jazz Alley Quartet and is working towards a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Animation at Sheridan's prestigious Oakville campus.
Drummer and Percussionist Ian Hinds began studying drums at a young age and became heavily interested in the musical stylings of psychedelic rock, and many artists of the 90's. With an added Acid Jazz influence, Hind's playing quickly matured into a very defined yet explosive style, which constantly contributes a very diverse percussion element to the band's music.
